A-Level Results
Haberdashers Aske’s Hatcham College Sixth Form continues to provide an outstanding education for all students as once again A Level results are well above the national average and the number of students achieving the top grades is among the best in south London: more than 50% of students achieved at least 2+ AAB grades and a quarter of all grades were at A*-A. Nearly 60% of grades were B or higher.
As one of the largest and most successful school sixth forms in south London, the College offers outstanding, nationally-recognised higher education and careers guidance with the majority of sixth formers securing their offers for places at university. All the students who were made an offer to study at Oxbridge achieved their grades, including Frank Ware who achieved A*AA to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford. Among other star performers were headboy Alan Taylor (A*AA), Aishath Inas Abdul-Matheen (A*AA), Jacob Smith (A*AA), Joe Linton (A*AA), Elisabeth Dent (A*A*B), Vinay Ostrolenk (A*AA), Drew Chatto (A*AB) – who achieved nearly 100% in English Literature, Grace Hankinson (A*A*), and Tom Walker (A*A*AA) who has gained a place to study Aerospace Engineering at Imperial. Four students – Dolapo Ogufuye, Kien Hang, Agnes Delap, and Aishath – are now going on to study Medicine.
The College is very proud that despite the national changes to A Levels over the last few years, its traditions of very high expectations and providing a strong academic education have ensured that the College is the best place to study in south London for academic students. Results were outstanding in all 23 subjects we offer, with the top subjects including English, Maths, Geography, Sociology, Economics, Art, Photography, Theatre Studies, French, History and Philosophy. We are an inclusive sixth form and of those students who this year took vocational courses, with well over 50% achieved a Distinction, equivalent to an A*. This year we have an increasing number of students going into apprenticeships, including for example Ruth Acquah, who received Russell Group university offers but chose instead to join the Sky school leavers’ programme.
Principal Declan Jones said ‘I am extremely proud of the achievements of our pupils and have every confidence that they will continue their academic careers moving from strength to strength. My gratitude also goes to the College’s passionate and hard-working staff who provided outstanding support to our students.’

GCSE Results
We are celebrating the impressive year-on-year improvement in our GCSE results with the outstanding achievement of our 2017 cohort of Year 11 students, who have more than met the increasingly rigorous challenge of the national changes to qualifications. We are proud that all students succeed on the traditional academic curriculum offered at Hatcham.
72% of students achieved 9-4 (equivalent to A*- C) in both Maths and English, with an amazing 88% of students achieving the top grades in English, making Hatcham one of the strongest English departments in the country. More than half the year group achieved the new higher good pass of 9-5 in both Maths and English. Performance at the top end was outstanding this year with the number of A*-A grades well above the national average and 7% higher than last year: 34% of all grades were A*-A and a third of the year group gained 5 or more GCSE qualifications at A*-A. Nearly 8% of grades in English were the new grade 9, equivalent to an A**.
Particular congratulations go to Dorothea Grose Forrester, Adedoyin Adeniyi, Jude Wasdell Harris, and Tiffany Salami, who all achieved 11 A*-A’s; and Iris Supple-Still, Michelle Asamoah, Jasmine Bush, Rebecca Douglas, Alice Erlander Milne, Dan Ezaz, Karolina Garbowska, Jack Hammock, Matt Beck, Marya Khan and Sayu Nkaze Yanno, who all achieved 10 A*-A grades. 31 students achieved 8 or more A*-A grades each. Our most successful students have worked consistently hard over their time at the school and have shown that hard work gets the grades. The average grade across the entire year group was a B.
Results in individual subjects have once again been excellent, in particular:
- an average grade of ‘A’ for students in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Spanish;
- 100% A*- C in Biology, Chemistry, Physics
- 100% A*- C in Engineering;
- 94% A*- C in Spanish;
- 93% A*- C in Computing;
- 88% 9-4 (A*- C) and 77% 9-5 in English;
- 87% A*- C in Music, Latin and Photography;
- 84% A* - C in Art;
- 82% A* - C in German;
- 81% A* - C in Geography;
- 80% A*- C in History;
- 78% A*- C in Drama.
More than half the grades in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Computing, French, Mandarin and Spanish were at A*-A. 8% of English and 4% of Maths grades were the new grade 9 (A**).
The Principal Declan Jones said: “These results are a reflection of the dedication and commitment of all our staff and the hard work of the students. We are proud of all our Year 11s and wish them every success for the future.”

LSSO Tour to Saxony
In July, 5 students from years 10 -13 went on tour to Leipzig and Dresden with the London School’s Symphony Orchestra. The students travelled around with 75 others of their age performing concerts to packed out venues in Saxony as well as enjoying the sunshine and all the cultural offerings that both cities give.
Year 12 student Rebecca Stowe was awarded a solo in the tour’s informal serenade concert which this year took place at Mendelssohn’s House in Leipzig. This is a prestigious venue and one that not many musicians have the opportunity to perform in. We are incredibly proud of Rebecca for her performance and look forward to hearing more of her in this, her final year at the school.
If you would like to support our students and the LSSO, they will be performing their tour programme in London on 25th September, 7.30pm in the Barbican.
Summer 2017 Music exam results
We want to congratulate all our secondary instrumentalists who passed their exams in July. Results below.
